XRB upskill, and become Surface pros with Auldhouse

The External Reporting Board (XRB) is an independent Crown Entity responsible for accounting and auditing and assurance standards in New Zealand. They have staff located in offices in Wellington and Auckland.

When an organisation-wide roll out of new Surface Pros was announced, the XRB team responded enthusiastically. They welcomed the opportunity to learn how to use their devices more efficiently, as well as refresh and upgrade their software skills.

Kerrie Cole, Director - Finance and Corporate Services for XRB, approached several IT training providers before choosing Auldhouse, who were the 'the most responsive, flexible and cost effective.'

The challenge

XRB wanted to maximise the value of their technology investment with some real productivity gains.

While all staff use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook on a daily basis, many in the team were self-taught, with varying levels of experience and confidence. Everyone knew there was more to learn.

Because the XRB team are spread across two locations, and need to travel frequently, Cole wanted to minimise the amount of disruption involved. They needed a partner who could deliver training based around busy staff schedules.

The Auldhouse approach

Auldhouse worked with XRB to develop customised course outlines to meet the needs of the trainees. "We wanted Auldhouse to be flexible, and they stepped up to the mark," says Cole.

"We wanted our training delivered on-site in Wellington and Auckland. We also wanted the trainers to proactively adapt the training based on the capabilities of each group at each session. Pricing was an upfront concern as well," she says.

The training sessions ran over several weeks.

The result

"Auldhouse were extremely responsive to our needs and structured the delivery so we got great value," says Cole. "Where they covered the material more quickly than anticipated, they didn't prolong the course. And with the smaller group in Auckland, they covered a lot of ground at a much faster rate - it was amazing. The feedback from our people was very positive."

"Their trainers let us deviate from the course outline to answer questions as they arose, but always brought us back to topic, and finished the session on time. And where someone needed more help the pace was slowed to allow them to catch up."

Cole attended some of the training sessions along with the rest of the team, and says that the tips the trainer shared were "worth their weight in gold". She rates Auldhouse highly for their professionalism, the quality of training materials and value for money. They already have plans to engage them again for Microsoft Skype training.

And would Cole recommend Auldhouse to others? "Most definitely!" she says. "They really do a good job, and I was very impressed."
